Relationship redeemed and reconciled! We matter to God and He wants us back.
How do you feel when someone great wants a relationship with you?
God kicked Adam and Eve out of the garden as protection from living forever separated from God.
In the same chapter (Genesis. 3), God also made a promise how He was going to redeem us and reconcile us through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. God always had a good plan. He wants us together!
In the two passages below, try to figure out:
- What is God’s part?
- What is our response?
Read John 3:16-17:
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Read 2 Corinthians 5:18-21:
18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling[c] the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
- What do you conclude about God’s role and our role?
- If we think our acceptance by God is based upon what we do, we will have either pride or despair. Why?
Jesus Christ became our sin so we could become right with God. It’s a swap of Jesus perfect record for our sin record. It’s a gift that isn’t fair, one we don’t deserve, but it’s ours if we believe and accept it because God loves us.
Imagine all the wrongdoing in your life. Jesus’ death covers all sin. You will never out sin His forgiveness. Now imagine Jesus steps in and switches places with you for past, current, and future sins.
When you accept this gift from God, God sees Jesus in you immediately and always.
How do you feel about Jesus? About God the Father?
Based on today’s reading what is God saying to you?
Pray the following for you Roots partner: In Christ there is nothing ________ can do that would make You love _____ more and nothing _______ has done that makes You love_______ less.
